World Duck Meat and Goose and Guinea Fowl Meat Situation
At the end of 2009, China led the world in the production of both duck meat and goose and guinea fowl meat, producing 69.3% and 94.1% respectively. Following China in duck meat production by volume were France (6.1%), Malaysia (2.8%), Myanmar (2.1%), and Vietnam (2.1). The US produced 49,990 MT and Canada 7,393 MT of duck meat in 2009, ranking 10th and 28th. Duck meat production in 2009 totaled 3.8 million metric tons (MMT), up 3.1% from 2008 levels (3.7 MMT). Trailing behind China in goose and guinea fowl meat production by volume were Egypt (1.7%), Hungary (1.1%), Poland (0.8%), and Italy (0.5%). Canada produced 1,213 MT, ranking 16th worldwide. World goose and guinea fowl meat production in 2009 was 2.5 MMT, up 3.9% from 2008 (2.4 MMT).
